AED Legal Centre

The Association of Employees with Disability Inc. (AED) is a disability organisation located in the Melbourne CBD. In 2008, the Association established the AED Legal Centre, a specialist community legal centre providing free legal services to people with disability. Our mission is to champion the rights of people with a disability who experience disadvantage in education and/or employment and give them access to the justice system. We do this through a strategic combination of information, education, negotiation and as a last resort litigation. When the task of meeting with an employer brings fear, anxiety and concern about losing a job, AED is there to support the employee and speak on their behalf to the employer. When children with disabilities and their parents struggle to negotiate appropriate supports from education providers, AED is there to support them, reminding school communities of their obligations. AED believes in the equal right to a quality education by students with a disability in primary, secondary and tertiary settings and gives priority to cases involving students who experience exclusion in getting access or participating in education. AED's priority areas are: - Unlawful termination of employment - Jobs in jeopardy - Exclusion from educational opportunities - Special modifications in the workplace or at school - Wages and working conditions - Disclosure of disability - Bullying or harassment - Cases that are in the public interest AED services lead to empowerment with an improvement in mental well-being, self-esteem and confidence by people with disability. AED is a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient Status from the Australian Taxation Office - all donations are Tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
