The Keeyask Generating Station will be a sources of renewable energy providing approximately 695 megawatts of capacity and producing an average of 4,400 gigawatt hours of electricity each year. Construction elements of the hydroelectric generating station include a 7-unit powerhouse complex, concrete spillway, approximately 2.2-kilometer of earth dam structures and 23.0-kilometers of earth dyke structures. "The Project is a collaborative effort being undertaken by the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership (KHLP), a partnership between Manitoba Hydro and four Manitoba First Nations: Tataskweyak Cree Nation and War Lake First Nation (acting as the Cree Nation Partners); York Factory First Nation and Fox Lake Cree Nation." In March 2014 BBE Hydro Contractors LP (BBE), consisting of Bechtel, Barnard Construction and EllisDon, was awarded a contract worth approximately CAN $1.4 billion by Manitoba Hydro to build the Keeyask Hydroelectric Generating Station on the lower Nelson River in northern Manitoba, Canada. BBE started construction in June 2014; structures work commenced in October 2015, with first power from the plant expected as early as 2019, and a target completion date of the civil works in 2020.
