Calchan is a UK-based biotechnology company focused on the research and development of novel molecules targeting pain and inflammation. The Company was formed in 2011 out of Convergence Pharmaceuticals, which was successfully sold to Biogen in January 2015 for $675m. Calchans assets were originally spun-out of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and target areas of clear unmet need, with a strong scientific rationale as well as targeting accessible populations with the possibility of premium pricing. The Company pipeline includes clinical and preclinical stage assets protected by strong IP and a family of granted patents and applications. Calchans Executive team is led by Brenda Reynolds, Chief Executive Officer (previously Convergence Pharmaceuticals, PowderMed, PowderJect, Pfizer) and Manjit Rahelu, Chief Operating Officer (previously Convergence Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, Sanofi, Novartis). Clive Dix is Chairman (previously Convergence Pharmaceuticals, PowderMed, PowderJect, Glaxo Wellcome) and Simon Tate (previously Convergence Pharmaceuticals and GSK) is a Non-Executive Board member. The Company is well-funded and is backed by leading VCs including Apposite Capital, New Leaf Ventures and SV Life Sciences, with a strategic investment from GSK.
