In Cambodia, less than half of the population finish high school and a staggering 36% of children are forced out of school and into work. Girls are most at risk. Since 2005, Cambodian Kids Can has been working tirelessly to change these statistics. We empower through education across three programs. Mekhala House provides at-risk girls with a safe and nurturing home, vital nutrition and healthcare, access to formal education and comprehensive personal development programs. As these young women successfully graduate from secondary school, they are then supported to pursue their dreams at university through our University Sponsorship program. We also enable a culture of learning in the community Mekhala Learning Centre, the only educational centre in Prey Veng province. It provides locals with free access to computers, the internet and a library. The centre also offers job skills training and short courses on English and computer literacy, enhancing employment prospects within the community.
