Canstruction Long Island, Inc.

Canstruction® Long Island, Inc., is an all-volunteer non-profit organization formed to produce the Annual Canstruction® Long Island Design/Build competition to help feed the hungry on Long Island. Teams spend months designing colossal structures and then have 24 hours to defy expectations, logic and gravity as they build these fantastic sculptures from thousands of cans of food. Driven by the knowledge that their structures will change lives by lifting the spirits of those in need, by raising public awareness, and most importantly, by filling the shelves of local food banks, dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to bring their creations to life. The following day, the super-sized masterpieces are judged in a variety of categories as this unconventional art exhibit is opened to the public. The cost of admission: just one can of food. At the end of the exhibition, all cans are donated to four local food banks: Long Island Cares, Inc./The Harry Chapin Food Bank, The Interfaith Nutrition Network, Island Harvest Food Bank, and The NEST at Nassau Community College, to feed hungry Long Islanders. Since 2007, the participants of Canstruction Long Island have donated over 480,000 cans of food and over $40,000 to help feed the hungry on Long Island.
