Center of Maritime Technologies (CMT) is a non-profit limited liabilities companies (gGmbH) with the mission to strengthen the competitiveness of the maritime industry and Germany as a business centre. The role of CMT is to strengthen maritime research, development and innovation by initiating and monitoring projects, providing research advice, disseminating expertise and results, conducting technical research in defines domains and exploiting synergies between different industrial sectors. CMT is a renowned research centre that conducts its own technical research in strategic fields with a medium to long-term perspective and offers extensive experience, networks and resources to support and consult on a broad range of ventures. Since 2020, CMT gGmbH has been a subsidiary of the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (Verband für Schiffbau und Meerestechnik e.V.), the political and economic representative body of the German maritime industry, the maritime and inland waterway shipyards as well as suppliers and service providers. The company is the direct successor organisation of Center of Maritime Technologies e.V., which was founded in 2002 and has been involved in more than 60 publicly funded, mostly European research projects and about 50 privately financed R & D agreements. CMT's know-how covers lightweight structures and new materials, production technologies, ship concepts and life cycle aspects for maritime applications. In addition, the organisation has extensive experience in coordinating major projects as well disseminating, analysing and establishing research and development cooperation.
