Simply put, the Climate Cost Project identifies, analyses, and documents the social and economic impacts of climate change across America. Climate impacts, such as extreme weather and exacerbated health concerns, are severely affecting the livelihoods of the American Public. Many of these costs are not captured by present research, resulting in a systematic underestimation of public funding as well as insufficient data to guide mitigation and adaptation strategies. The Climate Impact Census aims to address data gaps by surveying public and private losses, helping policymakers and communities combat the systemic issues that exacerbate economic damages. Our work is supported by generous individual donors, the Alex C. Walker Foundation, and the Kettering Family Foundation, with fiscal sponsorship from the Open Space Institute.
