Consumers Mutual Insurance of Michigan is sponsored by a coalition of 15 county health plans, which are private, nonprofit corporations that currently provide limited health coverage benefits to low-income individuals in Michigan. Consumers Mutual plans to offer health insurance to individuals and small groups throughout the state of Michigan. The Affordable Care Act provides tax subsidies to people so they can get health insurance. Even with subsidies many people will still find the cost of insurance just beyond their reach. Because Consumers Mutual will use profits to lower costs and improve benefits, we expect our insurance will be attractive and affordable.
