When founder and owner Liz Wolff opened the shop in 2008 as part of her mission to help fund research and advocacy for Type 1 Diabetes, it was to a much different political and economic New York climate. And today, Cure is still an authentic, locally-owned small business, maintaining its place in an increasingly upscale neighborhood. Its evolution through and within the cityscape it calls home is a testament to the creative, organic atmosphere it produces. Visitors to the shop be they tourists strolling around Union Square; long-time regulars whose donations have at times given the shop shape and whose purchases have kept its doors open; the antique-collecting, the clothing-obsessed, the art-appreciating can not only expect to find contemporary designer and well-maintained vintage pieces (clothing, art, furniture, homeware, decor, and always more), but to be overwhelmingly affected by the distinct feeling of the space. Liz's curation is nothing short of magical. The spirit of each piece is highlighted by things brought together color informs style, texture and material point out history. The shop takes ownership of things temporarily dispossessed and mediates their journey on. It feels, always, unmistakably full; bustling, energetic, quirky a living network of interaction between the immaterial character of its merchandise and its curatorial team of visual artists, designers, writers, makers, and appreciators.
