Department of Housing and Public Works (Queensland)

The Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works provides a diverse array of services to Queenslanders relating to Housing, Public Works, Digital Technology and Sport. We're the largest landlord in the state, supporting more than 70,000 households in social rental housing. Our 5,000-plus staff are based in 55 offices across Queensland to connect and provide culturally appropriate services to every community. We're the builder and caretaker of schools, hospitals, ambulance, police and fire stations, as well as other public infrastructure. We ensure Queenslanders have access to the best facilities possible to support healthy communities. We champion Queenslanders of all ages to lead active, healthy lives and be more socially connected by being involved in local sporting activities. We make sure Queenslanders can access quality sport and recreation by supporting industry organisations, sporting bodies and individuals through programs, services and grants. We’re passionate about improving digital skills and access to digital services to help Queenslanders be active participants in the digital age. We’re also using digital technologies to make our services and information simpler and easier to use. We manage government records and data through Queensland State Archives and, through Queensland Smart Services, we're responsible for the HR and payroll of about 70,000 government employees. We manage procurement for the Queensland Government including the lease of 10,000 vehicles to staff, judges and politicians. We're responsible for policy and legislative reform for the building industry. We're making sure local Queensland businesses are first in line for government work and that subbies get paid for the work they do. Through the Chief Information Office, we provide advice on digital and ICT issues, including strategy, governance and policy, cybersecurity analytics, and supporting agencies in the digital transformation of their business.
