Design Global Change

Design Global Change [DGC] is a collaborative do tank of design students and professionals who put their talents together to make a positive impact in the world. We work on projects that matter. It started in 2008 at the Hartford Art School, University of Hartford, by Professor Natacha Poggio who partnered with Engineers Without Borders Students to create Water4India, a sanitation campaign in Abheypur, India; in 2009 DGC worked in Kenya for a nutrition, sanitation and wellness campaign. In 2010 and 2011, the projects expanded to packaging design for grain Amaranth (distributed by a cooperative of HIV+ women in Kisumu, near Lake Victoria). DGC also developed “Bringing girls into focus,” a Sappi "Ideas that Matter" award-winning campaign promoting gender equality and raising awareness of women’s important roles in rural communities. Since 2011, DGC has collaborated with healthcare organizations in developing countries (such as Unite for Sight and LIMBS International) and created two nonviolence murals in the city of Hartford.
