The company was founded as Queiroz Moura & Cia. in 1894 as a manipulation laboratory of vegetal extracts-based products; one of its participants was the pharmacist Luiz Pinto de Queiroz. Elekeiroz has been a pioneer- not only in Brazil but also in Latin America - in the manufacture of several chemicals as Phthalic Anhydride, Carbon Disulphide, Trimethylol Propane, 2-Ethyl Hexanoic Acid as well as 2-Ethyl Hexyl Alcohol and n-Butanol, using a technology based on Ethyl Alcohol derived from sugar cane
