This friend was founder and owner of a large cap manufacturer in Haiti, called Empire sporting goods. He needed a new market, and asked Jan Boutmy if he was interested in selling caps on the Island Curacao. It was a success and he soled 40.000 caps the first year. After seven years of expanding, Rene Boutmy joined the company. From that year Empire became a family company. In 1997 Rene Boutmy officially became the CEO of Empire Import & Export N.V.
