Building and renovating must be faster, cheaper and more sustainable. This requires a radical change in prevailing building practice; from traditional craft to the application of 21st century technology. For Factory Zero, design, innovation and the application of industrial production processes are the basis for creating unprecedented customer value. With this, Factory Zero fills a gap between the builder, who is focused on supplying production capacity, and on the other hand, the industry, which is focused on mass production of independent construction products. The development of the iCEM is partly financed by the INTERREG program E = 0. Factory Zero develops, produces and supplies all components required for a complete zero on the Meter home makeover with performance guarantee. These components are constructed in such a way that the principle of 'plug and play'​ is applied at the construction site. We produce these components ourselves or in close collaboration with innovative partners from the construction industry. Organizing scale, which means lowering prices considerably and products are getting better, is a key factor here. Multidisciplinary teams work on integrated façade technology, on-site sustainable energy production, smart heating and cooling systems and new production and assembly techniques. Factory Zero is convinced that all Dutch households can live in an energy-neutral home within 20 years and that within 5 years we can become the largest competitor of the fossil energy company.
