While setting up his own gym in Somerset, FitKit founder Abid Khan experienced the challenge that many new gym owners face; sourcing premium quality fitness equipment on a very limited budget. Abid’s search for best-in-quality equipment at an affordable price proved unsuccessful and he turned his attention towards the second-hand market. This is where his talent for refurbishing used fitness equipment into high quality, reliable – but most importantly, cost-effective – pieces was uncovered. Once his gym was up and running, Abid was able to dedicate more of his time to the opportunity he saw before him – buying, refurbishing and selling one piece of equipment at a time, and renting a cowshed on a nearby farm for workshop space. FitKit UK Ltd. was launched. Today, the company operates nationwide and employs more than 30 members of staff, including equipment engineers, installation teams and support personnel. With two warehouses and more than 70,000ft² in storage space, FitKit UK has come a long way from the days of operating out of a cowshed… Meanwhile, Abid’s gym has gone from strength to strength and he remains passionate about the industry, his experience and learnings as a gym owner, which he now shares with many FitKit UK customers.
