Founded in 1983, Freedom House Detroit is the first, and continues to be the only, organization in the U.S. that offers free comprehensive services to international survivors of persecution that treat the whole individual: starting with legal aid and shelter, we deliver a continuum of services, free to indigent asylum seekers, that guide them toward asylum, help them heal from the traumas of persecution, and teaches them the skills they need to be successful and self-sufficient in the U.S. We are a pathway for these survivors to rebuild their lives and unite with families as they embark upon their journey towards full citizenship. Annually, we serve over 115 people from more than 20 countries.
