Friend of the Sea

Friend of the Sea is a program launched in 2008 by the World Sustainability Organization and it represents marine conservation and awareness programs in over 40 countries as well as certification standards for products and services which respect the marine habitat. When you choose a Friend of the Sea certified product or service, you know that it is produced respecting sustainable practices and that you are contributing by your choice to several conservation projects worldwide. The Friend of the Sea third-party audits are carried out every year onsite by qualified independent certification bodies. Products and services in different sectors can aim to obtain the Friend of the Sea certification: food (seafood, salt) nutraceutical (omega3, collagene); seaweeds; cosmetics (UV Creams which do not impact coral reefs); tourism (beaches, public aquariums, whale and dolphin-watching; hotels and resorts; restaurants); transportation (marine shipping, cruise lines); many others. Friend of the Sea conservation projects aim at protecting enangered aquatic species and habitats: dolphins, whales, turtles, sharks, sturgeons, coral reefs and many others. Over 1500 companies in more than 80 countries have relied on Friend of the Sea to assess the sustainability of their seafood origins. conservation projects and campaigns aim at protecting endangered species and habitats. The World Sustainability Organization has launched also Friend of the Earth, with a mission similar to Friend of the Sea, but applied to land based species and human activities, such as agriculture, farming, mining and tourism.
