Welcome to Gilda's Club Rochester - An affiliate of the Cancer Support Community Our mission is to create a welcoming community of free support for everyone living with cancer - men, women, teens and children - along with their families and friends. Our innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, educational and social activities. We are here to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community. Membership and Programs are at NO COST to you as a member - Joining Gilda's Club Rochester is easy. Call about our new member orientation to tour the Clubhouse and learn about the 100 monthly activities, including: Support & Networking Groups, Lectures, Workshops and Art Classes, Social Activities, Noogieland - our program for children and Camp Open Arms. Our History Cancer Action, Inc. was formed in 1959 under the name of the Monroe County Cancer Association. When founded, the mission of the organization was to be one of the leading, not for profit cancer support groups dedicated to delivering highly responsive prevention, education, wellness programs and cancer support services to those affected by cancer. Cancer Action, Inc. becomes Gilda's Club in 2000 Cancer Action's goal was a better informed and healthier population. Building on that mission, in 2000 Cancer Action, Inc. brought the Gilda's Club program to the Rochester Community. Cancer Support Community is Born in 2009 In November 2009 Gilda's Club Worldwide and the Wellness Community, an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones, began the process to merge as affiliates of the newly named Cancer Support Community (CSC).
