Green Bio Energy

Headquartered in Kampala, Uganda, Green Bio Energy Limited (GBE) is one of the first for-profit renewable energy businesses to market carbonized briquettes and improved cook stoves in East Africa. Because we are strongly convinced by the triple bottom line approach, our products, services and processes are collaboratively and innovatively designed to achieve our three goals of environmental, economic and social impact. In East Africa, expensive wood-charcoal is the fuel source used by most households, who mainly waste it in rudimentary and inefficient cookstoves. This largely participates in the ramping deforestation, increasing CO2 emissions and still widespread poverty in the region, consequences of which threaten its sustainable development. To face these challenges, GBE chose the social business model to offer low-income families access to cost-saving, eco-friendly and safe energy solutions. Under its brand Briketi, GBE produces and distributes carbonized briquettes and improved cookstoves, based on a local content approach (local design of all products and machinery). In addition, thanks to its experienced staff now gathering expertizes in R&D, manufacturing and marketing at the BoP (Bottom of the Pyamid), GBE provides a wide range of premium business services such as training and consulting.
