The Hang Gliding Federation of Australia is the sporting body that administers Hang Gliding, Paragliding and Weight Shift Microlights, under regulations laid down by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. The HGFA provides standards for pilot training, pilot and instructor certifications and operational procedures, throughout Australia. The HGFA currently has approximately 3,600 full members drawn across three disciplines - Hang Gliding, Paragliding and Weightshift Microlight aircraft . About 15 to 20% of those members participate in competition with the remainder involved as recreational participants. HGFA has 8 members that hold aviation world records
