Over the years, Hawaii Electric Light Company has provided energy to over 80,000 customers on the island of Hawai`i. In 1970, Hawaii Electric Light Company was purchased by Hawaiian Electric Company. Hawaii Electric Light Company generates over 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year and utilizes clean energy sources to generate nearly 50% of that amount (46.7% in 2012). The energy we use is an essential but limited resource necessary to maintaining our quality of life. In a changing world, Hawaii Electric Light Company along with its parent company, Hawaiian Electric Company, has evolved to offer more than electricity.
