Hidro Tarnita is the Romanian project company in charge with managing the process of developing the Tarnita Lapustesti Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant (CHEAP Tarnita-Lapustesti). Established in November 2013, the company aims at identifying investors interested in this flagship project for the Romanian energy system. The process of selecting investors is underway, the deadline for the first phase (the prequalification and non-binding offers negotiation phase) being on January 30th, 2015. CHEAP Tarnita-Lapustesti, a green-field investment of approximately one billion euros, will secure the balance of the National Energy System which registers a considerable growth of the production capacities from renewable sources (wind, solar, etc) that are characterized by intermittent operation. At the same time, CHEAP Tarnita-Lapustesti will be a provider of ancillary services for Romania and neighboring countries, to ensure power quality standards.
