Founded in 1994 at the direction of Governor Edward G. Rendell, then Philadelphia’s mayor, Historic Philadelphia, Inc.’s (HPI) mission is to make our nation’s history relevant and real through interpretation, interaction, and education, strengthening Greater Philadelphia’s role as the destination to experience American History. To serve this mission HPI manages, programs, and maintains three properties including the Betsy Ross House, Franklin Square and Once Upon a Nation.
