The Institute of Legal Studies, Yonsei University, was established in March 1969 as the Institute for Judicial Studies. It was restructured into the Institute for Legal Studies affiliated with the College of Law. Simultaneously with the opening of the Yonsei Law School on March 1, 2009, the Institute became a University institute, independent from the Law School. The Institute has eleven research centers the Center for Public Governance and Law, Center for Global Business and Law, Center for Medicine and Science, Technology Law, Chinese Law Center, Asian Law Center, EU Law Center, Center for Legislative Studies, Center for Dispute Resolution, Center for Water Law and Resource Policy, Center for Anti-Corruption and Compliance, and the Center for Law, National Unification and Peace. The centers are designed to promote legal studies in various specialized fields including area studies. The Institute of Legal Studies publishes two journals Beophak yeongu [Yonsei Law Review, published in Korean] and Yonsei Law Journal [published in English]. Beophak yeongu, which has been published since 1973, is a KCI-indexed journal, while Yonsei Law Journal, published since 2010, is growing to be a space for discussion among global comparative law experts, with renowned international scholars serving in its editorial board. The three of the centers publish their own journals respectively Yonsei Journal of Public Governance & Law, Yonsei Global Business Law Review(YGBL), and Yonsei Journal of Medicine and Science Technology Law with active student participation.
