JERA Trading is an energy trading joint venture between majority shareholders JERA Co. Inc. (66%) and EDF Trading (33%). JERA Co. Inc. is an equal joint venture between two major Japanese electric companies - Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) and Chubu Electric Power Company (Chubu). EDF Trading is the trading arm of EDF, the French leading low carbon power producer in Europe. JERA Trading is one of the leading global utility-backed coal traders with significant presence in both the Atlantic and Pacific basins and total physical coal sales of approximately 60 million tonnes per annum. JERA Trading applies an asset-backed trading business model, leveraging the flow of physical activities of its shareholders power stations to develop profitable business with third party customers and financial trading opportunities. JERA Trading operates in all major coal and freight markets (Europe, Asia, North and South America) and trades both physical and financial products. The company is headquartered in Singapore with offices in London and in the US. It also owns a coal handling terminal (Rietlanden) in the port of Amsterdam to service its European customers. JERA Trading has a total of c200 employees worldwide including its coal handling facility in the port of Amsterdam. JERA Co. Inc. and EDF Trading are in active discussion to expand JERA Tradings activities into global LNG trading.
