The King Island Council was established on the 19th December 1907 and continues to deliver a wide range of services to the local community. King Island is known for its fresh produce, pristine beaches, rich agricultural land and fishing stocks. The main industries are agricultural, fishing and manufacturing including cheese production and kelp harvesting, which contribute largely to the local economy. Two world class golf courses are driving the visitor economy and complementing some of the island’s other attractions such as recreational trails, bird-watching, fishing, surfing, arts and food events.
