The Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority works with existing Lake County businesses to help them grow and add new jobs. The Port Authority also assists businesses that want to locate to Lake County. The Port Authority is able to provide services such as financing, site-selection assistance, and coordination with other county resources such as workforce development and utilities. The Port Authority was created in February 2007 to promote projects that result in new employment opportunities and improve the economic welfare of the people residing in Lake County. The Port Authority is authorized by state law to enhance, foster, aid, provide or promote transportation, economic development, housing, recreation, governmental operations, culture or research. The Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority manages Lost Nation Airport, which is Lake County's executive airport. The Port Authority is responsible for the implementation of the Lake County Coastal Development Plan and Landside Communities Plan, both of which seek to guide planned development of coordinated community projects that complement each other and increase public access to the lakeshore while preserving and protecting it for generations to come, and creating opportunities for private sector investment on the landside.
