Lissy Clothing

A scientific approach to fashion: A new fashion label provides stylish versatile pieces which block harmful UV rays. The clothes are ethical and environmentally friendly, while being designed and made in New Zealand using recycled materials. When Lissy clothing founder Melissa Heffernan was working as a nurse for over 16 years she became alarmed at the number of young people diagnosed with melanoma and just how quickly their precious life could vanish. After her twins were born, spending more time at the beach with her family she found the need to re-apply so much sunscreen became a chore. The children were well catered for in their sun protection rash shirts yet the market lacked stylish and fun womens clothing with sun protection in mind. This along with the knowledge of New Zealand having the highest rate of melanoma in the world Melissa set about establishing Lissy clothing. Much research has gone into ensuring premium quality sun protection is guaranteed. The eco-friendly Italian fabric is made from ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon that comes from fishing nets. These nets can be tangled on a rocky reef or drifting in the open sea harming marine life. Once collected they are regenerated into new thread then woven into fabric with UPF 50+ sun protection. All Lissy clothing garments block 98% UV rays, significantly reducing your chance of sun damage and ultimately skin cancer. Made in New Zealand the garments are designed to be long wearing and versatile taking you from the beach to sidewalk. With a range of sundresses, top, kimono and more products to come. Customers are loving the mix of stylish and fun, with a NZ-specific health purpose to every garment, Lissy Clothing is doing wonders for the Kiwi consumer.
