Masterstudio Design | HGK FHNW

Masterstudio Design hosts three design majors, including Industrial Design, Fashion Design and Scenography. The English-taught course is based in Basel, Switzerland, and is a space for experimentation, discourse and production. Students work in a lively environment that invites transdisciplinary discussion and exchange. Additionally, students get to develop their disciplinary skills and work on their profile within their chosen major: A major in Scenography MA involves translating complex social, political and ecological contents into narrated spatial images and staged spaces. Practices of scenographic design in public, semi-public and private spaces are explored, leading to new narratives that are positioned between installation, exhibition, performance, stage design, augmented reality and virtual reality. A major in Industrial Design MA involves design research and practice, focusing on the areas of circular design, digital integration and design cultures. Product design and project implementation take place in an international network with leading designers who shape the disciplines. A major in Fashion Design MA requires students to understand fashion as an experimental movement of the body, soul, mind and heart that critically reflects on social change and drives it in a responsible and sustainable manner. Students engage with this practice based on a viable vision of design and a conceptual foundation in the contemporary fashion scene.
