The MSVIA serves the Medical Society of Virginia as a source of non-dues revenue. As an insurance agency, the MSVIA receives commissions from various insurance companies where business is placed. After agency expenses, these commissions generate profits that are sent to MSV. These profits are used in legislative efforts, practice management support and other issues pursued by MSV on behalf of Virginia physicians.
