Planet Happiness

Planet Happiness' mission is to focus the attention of all tourism stakeholders on the well-being agenda; and use tourism as a vehicle for development that demonstrably strengthens destination sustainability and the quality of life of host communities. Planet Happiness is a non-profit measuring the happiness of residents living in World Heritage sites. It aims to enhance destination well-being and safeguard our global heritage. Using a state of the art happiness metric, Planet Happiness gathers happiness data that directly measures how individual residents and destination communities view their well-being. Planet Happiness creates a bridge between host communities and destination managers, including local governments, businesses, NGOs and universities. It allows all actors to review change processes underway and identify pathways towards responsible and sustainable forms of tourism, development and heritage management. Globally the project seeks to raise international awareness of our need to move Beyond GDP and identify alternative measures of development.
