Reverse Garbage Cooperative Ltd

Reverse Garbage is Australia’s largest creative reuse centre. Every year we save over 260 tonnes of valuable resources from languishing in landfill and educate over 16,000 people on the important of reuse… and we achieve all this as a self-funded not-for-profit charity. Reverse Garbage was established in 1975 by a group of teachers and community workers determined to ease pressure on the environment. Their plan was to divert industrial discards from landfill and reuse those materials in their classrooms. To this day, education is a major focus for our reuse resources. Our education team are always on the move running curriculum-based sustainability workshops in schools all over greater Sydney. We also run professional development sessions for educators, workshops for tertiary students, and creative reuse sessions at festivals and shopping centres. We fund our successful operations by accepting donations of commercial, industrial and residential waste that would otherwise end up in landfill and selling it from our Marrickville warehouse. The reuse resources are given new life by educators, artists, upcyclers, DIY enthusiasts, tinkerers, set builders, window dressers, community organisations, festivals, charities, and more. Our fans will tell you the beauty of Reverse Garbage is that you never know what you will find. Our goods are described as random, unique, obscure, retro, fabulous, interesting – but above all they are all useful. We are the epitome of ‘one man’s trash is another’s treasure’.
