Faculty of Maths and Physical Sciences (MAPS), The School of Food Science & Nutrition specialises in the fields of Food Colloids & Processing, Food Chemistry & Biochemistry and Nutrition & Epidemiology. All of our academic team members participate in both research and teaching, meaning that the Students are taught about the very latest developments. We also invite experts from industry and government to talk. The School maintains a strong research culture based on the application of fundamental scientific principles to addressing issues of food quality of ongoing concern to consumers, government and industry. Research in the School of Food Science and Nutrition continues to be at the cutting-edge, aiding better control of the safety and quality of our food. All the School's teaching staff are research-active, supervising many postgraduate and postdoctoral workers. We’re regularly ranked within the top 2 places in the UK to study food science and nutrition, in major rankings lists such as The Guardian’s University League Tables, The Sunday Times’ Good University Guide, and the Complete University Guide.
