SmartBay Ireland supports the national marine test facility for the development of innovative products and services for the global maritime sector. This includes the trial and validation of novel marine sensors, prototype equipment and the collection and dissemination of marine data to national and international users of the facility Users of SmartBay are supported by a multidisciplinary team with the scientific, technological, ICT and business development experience necessary to develop, test and validate innovative solutions for the marine sector. SmartBay is Irelands national marine test and demonstration facility for the development of innovative products and services for the global maritime sector. It is located 4.5km east of Spiddal in County Galway approximately 1.5km offshore and in water depths of c. 25m. The sub-sea cabled observatory includes:. A fibre optic data and 400v power cable High speed communications via 4 pairs of optical fibres A sub-sea cabled sensor platform which hosts a variety of sensors and equipment which can be tested and demonstrated in near real-time. A specialist data management team provides an open platform for the SmartBay user community. A secure and bespoke environment for any organisation conducting proprietary trials, testing data analytics or software development, is provided.
