south florida community land trust, inc.

The South Florida Community Land Trust (SFCLT), a 501(c)3 nonprofit, was formed in 2006 out of a regional planning effort to provide a permanent source of affordable housing in the region. As part of our mission to provide and preserve quality, sustainable, affordable housing for underserved populations," the South Florida CLT offers affordable rental, lease-purchase and CLT homeownership opportunities to address the full spectrum of housing needs for low-income families. As it stands today, we are the only active organization in Broward County focused on the long-term affordability of housing. This long-term vision of our housing services is key to stabilizing distressed neighborhoods now and in the future. SFCLT offers a place-based method for development that mutually supports and balances the needs of the community with the needs of individuals within that community. The key to our success is the CLT model which allows SFCLT to address diverse community needs beyond affordable housing while effectively retaining initial subsidy investments for long-term affordability. These include the preservation of place, character and affordability in response to rising housing costs, limited new construction space, and growing numbers of abandoned, aging, or foreclosed upon properties and finally SFCLT is able to help communities develop and grow economically without displacing residents.
