The Boroughs Store

The Boroughs Store (3057) is the retail component of Orangechairs Pty Ltd. It is an expression of our interest in retail culture and community engagement, and a chance for Alasdair and his team to practice what they preach. With it's roots in small scale textile manufacturing East Brunswick became a site for textbook gentrification, only 6 km from the Melbourne CBD, artists and designers moved in first, encouraging small business entrepreneurs who have rebuilt the 'High Streets' followed by families and professionals looking to be a part of the eclectic and passionate culture that has come to characterise the community. Orangechairs had been watching the development of the ethical consumer profile, product preferences, communication style, retail environment and wanted an opportunity to put these insights to work. The store is our retail and marketing incubator. The Boroughs store or (Five Boroughs as it was formerly known) is developed to be meet consumer demand for locally made and designed homewares. Stocked with a broad mix of categories, design focused, with most products sourced from local designer/manufacturers, it represents the needs and aspirations of customers and the activity of the surrounding area. The focus of the in-store experience is on the strength of story embedded in every product, visual clarity around objects and clearly defined areas or departments, making it easy for consumers to 'read' the offer. As the business matures it has begun to develop private label products directly with it's suppliers via a process of collaboration that may involve 2 or 3 suppliers working together to create a unique product.
