Thunder Bay Aviation Ltd. was founded in March of 1987. The objective of our Company at start up was to provide overhaul and repair services to the many aircraft operators in North Western Ontario for their varied fleet of aircraft. In 1989 our second year of operation we recognized a need for support of the de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft market. Our first step in providing support to the Twin Otter operators was to provide our maintenance and repair expertise to various operators. In our dealings with the various operators we found that the spares support was a niche area where we could provide our expertise. Due to this niche, in June of 1989 we aggressively began to acquire parts for the Twin Otter aircraft. To that end we purchased a large amount of surplus inventory from various companies that no longer operated the Twin Otter. In 1994 we realized that the surplus parts were getting much harder to find. So we decided that it would be good to make parts for the Twin Otter ourselves. It took about two years to get our Transport Canada Approval as an Approved Manufacturer and we began making PDA (Parts Design Approved) parts for the Twin Otter. In 2002 we saw a need for seats for the Twin Otter so set about designing our own Combi-Commuter seats, these seats take the best of the fold up seats and the commuter seats and put it together to make a superbly comfortable seat that folds up to allow easy freighter conversion of the Twin Otter. We received our STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) for the seats in June 2004. From 2004 to today we have developed many more PDAs and STCs for the Twin Otter. We also have STCs for Beech 99, King Air Series, Beech 1900, Cessna 400 Series, Cessna 208, Piper PA31 Series, Beaver and Otter aircraft.
