TMI Project is a non-profit organization offering transformative memoir workshops and performances that foster connection through true storytelling, and which empower participants and audience members alike to discover new perspectives and understandings. We strive to change the world, one story at a time, by fostering understanding, identification and compassion among people from diverse backgrounds and situations. We are committed to dispelling the shame and stigma attached to personal experiences by helping participants share their stories effectively, in a way that allows them to be truly heard, and that evokes emotional identification with listeners, even those whose specific experiences have been very different from theirs. We provide the opportunity to be heard to populations that otherwise dont often get to tell their stories, thus: empowering the storytellers; engendering understanding and compassion among listeners; creating public awareness of otherwise invisible issues; and hopefully inciting social, legal and political change once those issues are brought to light. We envision a world where true storytelling is an agent of change; where, through the sharing of true personal narratives, everyonestorytellers and listeners alikecan release shame, stigma and old understandings, and make space for new ones.
