Tyne & Wear Sport works to increase and improve participation in sport and physical activity, whether that is people playing, working or volunteering. Our work includes developing the workforce, securing and allocating funding, co-ordinating activity between partners, data analysis, improving standards and advocating the value of sport and physical activity for health, enjoyment and social benefits. The core team works closely with colleagues from Sport England, NGBs, local authority sports development teams, schools, colleges and universities, as well as a host of other training and voluntary groups to identify local need and undertake a strategic planning role to ensure optimum use of existing and potential resources, co-ordinating and aligning the delivery of sporting activities to avoid duplication. This overriding aim is supported by our role of providing 'the glue' between organisations, bringing them together and strengthening their collaboration in order to: - Provide an opportunity for partners to do things better, by learning from others - Do things that they cannot do on their own, by working together - Shape and influence cross cutting agendas and the agendas of others - Undertake strategic planning for sport and physical activity - Demonstrate the collective impact of the work of the partners in sport and physical activity - Tyne & Wear Sport became a company limited by guarantee with charitable status in March 2010.
