The University of Wrocław is one of the largest and oldest universities in Poland - it was founded in 1702 as the Academy Leopoldina. Today, it is a 10-faculty university combining the heritage of Silesian history and the legacy of Austrian, Prussian, Czech and Polish culture, and continuing the traditions of the Polish universities in Lviv and Vilnius. The university educates nearly 36,000 students and doctoral students as well as 3,000 postgraduate students. Approximately 8,000 graduates leave the university every year. Teaching is based on the Bologna system. Education is provided in 3 modes: full-time, part-time and extramural.
