Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health

Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is registered charity that provides a place of belonging and a caring community for Ottawa’s Aboriginal population. Located in one of Ottawa’s poorest neighbourhoods, the Wabano Centre is a place to come together as a community each and every day. Our centre is designed around the Aboriginal belief that the mind, body, emotions and spirit must all be cared for. In order to support health and well-being, Wabano offers a full medical clinic, mental health clinic, community and cultural programs along with community outreach to provide a place that people can call home. Wabano has become an award-winning health care facility in Canada, garnering international recognition. Each year, Wabano provides professional services and cultural events to over 10,000 Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people – opening our doors to serve and build capacity in the entire community. We serve as a centre of excellence for urban Aboriginal health across Canada. We envision a world in which all First Nation, Inuit and Métis people have achieved full and equitable access to the conditions of health including: pride in ancestry, cultural reclamation, peace, shelter, education, food, income, a stable environment, resources, and social justice. And where the gifts and wisdom of First Nation, Inuit and Métis cultures are recognized as valuable, distinctive and beautiful.
