wound management innovation crc

About the Wound CRC: Wounds, particularly chronic wounds, have been identified as a significant health, social and economic burden. Over 450,000 Australians annually live with a chronic wound, the conservative estimated cost to the Australian Health System is over $2.5B. Our ageing population and the raising prevalence of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity all impact significantly on the number and type of wounds across Australia. The Wound CRC brings together the best of industry, academia and end user organisations to improve wound healing and quality of life for people with wounds and to lessen the burden on the Australian Health System. The WMI CRCs focus of operations is on the following activities: Near-term, high impact industry-led research; Development of next generation wound products; Education of healthcare providers, patients and wound researchers; and Clinical translation of activities and resources into sustainable legacies. The first legacy created by the wound CRC is the Wound Healing Institute of Australia (WHIA). This is a company that is commercialising a range of education and training tools. It is has become a registered charity with the goal of returning excess revenue to the wounds research, education and training through the CRC participants. Our Vision: Transforming Wound Outcomes. Our Mission The WMI CRC will improve wound healing and quality of life for people with wounds and implement cost-effective wound care that lessens the burden on the Australian Health System. About the CRC Programme: The Australian Governments Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) Programme supports industry-led collaborations between researchers, industry and the community. CRCs are developing new technologies, products and services that are improving peoples lives, the economy and the environment. www.business.gov.au
