Alabama Rivers Alliance is a statewide network of more than 60 groups working to protect and restore all of Alabamas water resources through building partnerships, empowering citizens, and advocating for sound water policy and its enforcement. Alabama has more than 132,000 miles of streams and rivers with more types of plants and animals living in them than any other state in the nation. However, we also have one of the highest extinction rates in North America, many of which are species that live in our rivers. Alabamas precious water resources currently face many threats. From improper enforcement of environmental regulations to the lack of planning and policy to ensure sustainable water for the future, our community is tasked with protecting the waters of the state for the health of the people and the life therein, or else we risk losing natural treasures that we can never retrieve. THE ALABAMA WATER AGENDA Produced by the Alabama Rivers Alliance and Southern Environmental Law Center, the Alabama Water Agenda highlights the numerous values of our waterways, the major threats to our waters, and the steps we can take to ensure healthy waters for generations to come. We have identified four key areas that Alabama can improve in order to ensure the health of our waterways for generations to come. Those areas are: Water Policy Enforcement Agency Coordination Adequate Funding These issues are outlined as action items in the Alabama Water Agenda, which defines these systemic problems and offers solutions for addressing them.

Furthermore, ASMS was established to meet the challenge of providing a world-class education to top students from across Alabama who do not have local access to a challenging education. ASMS is located in Mobile, a diverse city found in the southwest corner of Alabama with a population of just under 200,000. The recruitment of candidates encompasses the state’s 67 counties.
