Alexander Twilight Academy (ATA) is a free catalyst program that provides hard working, high potential students from under-resourced backgrounds with the highest quality educational and life-enriching opportunities. ATA provides academic enrichment that prepares students to succeed at and gain admission to top high schools and colleges with scholarships. Named after the first Black American to graduate from college in the United States, Alexander Twilight Academy makes a long-term commitment to serve each student and family we admit from middle school through college and beyond.

The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) explores the dynamic relationship between the internet and society and contributes to a growing international field of research from various disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives. The HIIG research agenda highlights the increasing interpenetration of digital infrastructures and everyday life. It is our common goal to study the ongoing transformation of the Internet and its services, with an emphasis on critical moments and structural shifts. The HIIG serves as a platform for researchers on Internet and society primarily and encourages the co-operative development of projects, applications and research networks. Through a variety of formats the institute shares its research with the interested public including politicians, business and civil society. The three founding associates – the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, the University of Arts Berlin and the Social Science Research Center Berlin, in alliance with the Hans-Bredow Institute for Media Research in Hamburg as an integrated co-operation partner – enable multilayer perspectives of the Institute by focusing on technological and legal perspectives as well as on sociological, economical and artistic aspects.

Our children’s hospice service provides essential support to local children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families. It was founded by the Devine family in memory of their son Alexander, who sadly passed away from a rare brain tumour in 2006. Their personal experience led them to realise a vital need for a local children’s hospice service. We currently support over 120 children and their families. Our service means very different things to each of them and as such our care is very personal. Whatever and wherever the need, we are dedicated to bringing comfort and care to these families. We offer respite care, specialist play, symptom management, family support, end of life care and bereavement support. Care is delivered either at home, in hospital, in schools or within our very own children’s hospice, which was opened in Summer 2018.
