Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi 03.07.1992 tarihli 3837 sayılı Yükseköğretim Kurumları Teşkilatı Hakkında 41 Sayılı Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamenin değiştirilerek kabulüne dair 2809 Sayılı Kanun ile 78 ve 190 Sayılı Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamelerde Değişiklik Yapılması Hakkında Kanun uyarınca 1992 yılında kurulmuştur. Üniversitemizin kuruluş kanununda; Fen-Edebiyat, Nazilli İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler, Tıp, Veteriner, Ziraat Fakülteleri olmak üzere 5 Fakülte; 3 Enstitü; Turizm İşletmeciliği ve Otelcilik Yüksekokulu ve Söke Meslek Yüksekokulu yer alırken; şu an Üniversitemiz 20 Fakülte, 3 Enstitü, 1 Devlet Konservatuarı, 2 Yüksekokul, 19 Meslek Yüksekokulu, 36 Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi ile toplam 81 akademik birimde eğitim-öğretim veren bir yükseköğretim kurumu haline gelmiştir. Kuruluş aşamasında Aydın'da ve Nazilli ilçesinde faaliyete başlayan Üniversitemiz, bugün Merkez, Çakmar, Işıklı, İsabeyli, Didim Akbük, Nazilli Sümer, Çine Süleyman Pekgüzel ve Karacasu Muzaffer Özuysal Yerleşkelerinin yanında Kuşadası, Atça, Sultanhisar, Yenipazar, Söke, Davutlar, Bozdoğan, Köşk, Buharkent ilçelerinde olmak üzere 17 ayrı yerleşim yerinde faaliyetlerine devam etmektedir.
