L’Abes - Agence bibliographique de l’enseignement supérieur, a été créée en 1994 pour mettre en œuvre le Sudoc, catalogue collectif des bibliothèques de l’Enseignement Supérieur. Aujourd'hui, le Sudoc donne accès à 15 millions de notices localisées dans - au moins - une des 1560 bibliothèques universitaires ou de recherche membres du réseau Sudoc. On y trouve également les notices des publications en série des 1600 bibliothèques du réseau Sudoc PS ainsi que les coordonnées des bibliothèques membres. Plusieurs outils bibliographiques complètent l'offre : - Calames : catalogue des manuscrits et archives de l’enseignement supérieur - IdRef : référentiel des notices d'autorités (personnes et collectivités) - theses.fr : moteur de recherche des thèses - Bacon ; base de connaissance nationale En tant qu'opérateur national pour la valorisation de la Recherche et de la production doctorale, l'Abes met à disposition des établissements de l'ESR plusieurs applications nationales : - Star, pour le signalement, le dépôt et l’archivage pérenne des thèses électroniques - Step, pour le signalement des thèses en préparation - theses.fr , moteur de recherche des thèses françaises En tant qu'agence de mutualisation, l'Abes offre un soutien financier et administratif : - portage de groupements de commandes de ressources électroniques négociées par le consortium Couperin. - dans le cadre du programme ISTEX : négociation et de l'achat des ressources électroniques sous forme de licences nationales. - dans le cadre du projet SGBm : portage du marché et de l'accord cadre En tant que structure de normalisation, l'Abes, en partenariat avec la BnF est engagée dans le programme Transition Bibliographique. Cette redéfinition des modalités de structuration, production et diffusion des métadonnées de bibliothèque vise notamment à favoriser l'insertion des catalogues des bibliothèques françaises dans le Web de Données.
