La società dilettantistica sportiva di basket B.C. Gators è nata nel Settembre del 2009, su iniziativa di giocatori e appassionati di pallacanestro. Dopo aver vinto il campionato di Promozione al suo primo anno di vita, la prima squadra partecipa dalla stagione 2010-11 al campionato di Serie D. Ad inizio Settembre 2012 è stata fondata la società satellite A.S.D. B.C. Caymans, che dalla stagione 2015-16 partecipa al campionato di Promozione, giocando a Cavallermaggiore. Dal 2010, inoltre, la società ha costituito il Centro Minibasket Gators, attivando corsi di minibasket per i bambini delle scuole elementari e medie, e attivando corsi di minibasket nei comuni di: Savigliano, Cavallermaggiore, Marene, Racconigi, Caramagna, Moretta, Torre San Giorgio, Cardè, Villafranca Piemonte, Sommariva Bosco. Si propone l’obiettivo, oltre che di stimolare alla salutare pratica sportiva, di indurre altri giovani del circondario a seguire con lealtà ed entusiasmo uno sport che appassiona e diverte e, soprattutto, aiuta i ragazzi ad aderire a interessi sani, a coltivare i valori dell’amicizia e della solidarietà di gruppo, contribuendo a far conoscere e diffondere anche in centri più piccoli della nostra provincia questo meraviglioso sport.
