On October 31, 2008, a 9-page white paper written by a person or group named “Satoshi Nakamoto” was released. The white paper, called “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” was issued to the subscribers of the cryptography mailing list and described a revolutionary technology that created the world’s first genuine peer-to-peer, trustless and decentralized monetary system. The internet-based money enabled online payments without a trusted intermediary or third-party and was also not under the control of a government or corporate entity. While Bitcoin was the headliner of the white paper, it was not the technology that enabled the peer-to-peer, electronic, cash system to work. That technology was called Blockchain. Ironically, the word blockchain was never mentioned in the white paper but was described in detail. So, in early 2009, Bitcoin was released as a public domain piece of software. Among other capabilities, Blockchain enables trust on the Internet between parties who are anonymous. Blockchain is indeed a revolutionary capability that put a new spin on how applications could be built going forward. This is why it is impossible to browse the Internet, pick up a newspaper or magazine and not see a headline referencing Blockchain. One day, Blockchain will be so mainstream that its skeleton will disappear in the same way that electrical wires are part of every wall, but no one notices anymore. But, before then, you should learn what Blockchain is and how it works. Paul Tatro’s groundbreaking new book, Blockchain Unchained: The Illustrated Guide to Understanding Blockchain, will help you do exactly that.

As contactless payments have become the preferred method for both consumers and businesses alike, the questions of efficiency, cost and trust have come to the forefront. Enter the world of stablecoins. BVCI, a Canadian Institution registered in the Province of Ontario, issues CADT, a stablecoin which is the world’s first third generation blockchain stablecoin solution. Unlike other digital currencies, BVCI is able to process thousands of transactions per second using a propriety private blockchain, compared to others which can process a mere 5 per second. This speed is needed for a viable commercial application. The blockchain provides an infallible decentralized ledger to back up all transactions. Users can purchase CADT using Canadian dollars, with the funds being held in escrow with a Schedule 1 Canadian Bank. No other stablecoin issuer in Canada has such a relationship with a bank or trust company. Using CADT, users and merchants bypass the many third-party checks that take place when using traditional currency, and the costs associated with them. Cross-Border transitions become seamless and cost effective. BVCI is committed to building a financial world where consumers and merchants take back control of their funds.

Blockchain Workspace is a training center for blockchain technology, with an emphasis on non technical stakeholders. From our own experiences over the last years, we have seen a distinct gap in knowledge between technical participants and other people active or willing to be active in the blockchain industry. Blockchain Workspace aims to fill this gap by providing professional training for non technical personnel, as well as thematic courses for professionals. Blockchain Workspace also is a training center for trainers and those who want to step into this job. We have a well-defined vision in that we are advocates of the use of public blockchains, while acknowledging that private blockchains may provide a temporary stepping-stone until certain regulatory decisions have been taken. We also believe that confining blockchain, even though it is clearly a coded phenomenon, to just coders. Unless blockchain technology is informed by professionals from other disciplines, it will remain a relative fringe phenomenon.
