Boys & Girls Club of the Sandhills

From games and athletics to drug prevention workshops, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sandhills offers young people a range of fun and productive activities. Clubs are open each day after school from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. – when research has shown children to be most vulnerable to gangs, violence and other risky behaviors. In the summer, Clubs and special summer-only sites open their doors all day to young people with nowhere else to go. A trained, caring staff implements proven youth development strategies and creates a stable, supportive environment for children and teens ages six to 18. Specially designed programs concentrate on developing job readiness, study skills, leadership, self-esteem, good health and social responsibility among Boys & Girls Club members. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America has a line up of tested and proven nationally recognized programs that address today’s most pressing youth issues. These Core Program areas teach young people the skills they need to succeed. What We Do Education & Career Programs These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi (BGCCM) has been serving the community for 78 years. Unlike other youth organizations, BGCCM are facility-based. Our four community Clubs and a 500 acre Camp are strategically placed in some of Central Mississippi's most troubled neighborhoods. Each Club facility is open when school is out, from 2 P.M. - 8 P.M., which is a critical time to be accessible by the young people who need us most. Activity fees are minimal and scholarships are available as needed. BGCCM enhances the development of youth, ages 6 -18, by installing a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. The Clubs provide homework help, energizing sports and recreational activities, nutritional education, character and leadership skill building, and college prep. MISSION: To enable all young people especially those who need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Many alumni fondly remember their days at the Barbieri Boxing Club in Healdsburg which became the first Club in the County. Every day, our countys future leaders come to the Clubs seeking hope & opportunity from caring adults. What happens next is hard to describe. Somewhere between hours of homework help, character building experiences, and positive relationships with other kids, lives are changed. Since 2008, weve grown from serving 300 young people to more than 6,000 Sonoma County children every year at over 30 Clubs in Cloverdale, Geyserville, Healdsburg, Windsor, Santa Rosa, and Rohnert Park.
