civic & social organization
The BC Co-operative Association is the umbrella organization that works on behalf of co-ops and credit unions in British Columbia, Canada. We promote co-ops as powerful tools for community control over local economies and as key strategies for economic and social reform. We are a member-driven organization that is a registered "second-tier" co-operative of other co-ops, credit unions, and supportive organizations drawn from across the spectrum of our economy. Among our members are some of the largest co-operatives in Canada, as well as some of the smallest and newest types of co-ops. Our work, though constantly evolving, normally focuses on the following areas: - Developing new co-ops - Strengthening and supporting existing co-ops - Educating and promoting co-operative solutions to the challenges facing B.C.'s communities, which includes bringing co-ops to new sectors of the economy (such as health care) - Introducing young people to the advantages of membership in co-ops and credit unions - Linking co-ops together to share ideas and solve problems common to them all - Sharing services and technical expertise amongst co-ops and credit unions - Forging partnerships with other institutions, governments and countries to build new relationships and strengthen the co-op movement in our province - Offering graduate level co-op education - Promoting co-operation, in collaboration with other organizations and all levels of government, as key to addressing challenges and opportunities that are unique to British Columbia

BCCNM is the provincial regulator for all nurses and midwives in British Columbia. We regulate the four nursing designations--licensed practical nurses (LPN), nurse practitioners (NP), registered nurses (RN) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPN)--as well as registered midwives (RM). Our purpose is to ensure the public receives safe, competent, and ethical nursing and midwifery care. BCCNM was established Sep. 1, 2020, through the amalgamation of the BC College of Nursing Professionals and the College of Midwives of BC. This amalgamation is in line with the Ministry of Health's ongoing efforts to streamline and modernize health profession regulation in B.C. The new college is the first nurse and midwife regulator in Canada, and the largest regulator in Western Canada, overseeing 68,500 registrants.

The BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) is the regulator for all nurses in BC: licensed practical nurses (LPNs), nurse practitioners (NPs), registered nurses (RNs) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs). We protect the public by setting standards of practice, assessing nursing education programs and addressing complaints about BCCNP registrants. BCCNP was established Sept. 4, 2018, through the amalgamation of three nursing colleges: the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of BC, the College of Registered Nurses of BC, and the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of BC.
BCCOHP regulates 16,000 certified dental assistants, dental hygienists, dental therapists, dental technicians, dentists and denturists. As a regulator, we protect the public in three main ways: by ensuring that oral health professionals are able to practise competently; by setting expectations for the delivery of safe and patient-centred oral health care; and by investigating complaints about oral health professionals. BCCOHP respectfully acknowledges that our offices are located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish and Lekwungen-speaking Peoples, represented today by the Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.
The roots of the BC Electrical Association (BCEA) go back to the 1920's. Today's BCEA, comprised of more than 145 corporate members, was started by the BC Electric Company (now BC Hydro). In 1923, our forerunner, The Electrical Service League of British Columbia (ESL), was chartered by the provincial government of the day. Until the 1980's, the ESL was located at the BC Hydro office and was completely financed by the utility. The electrical service league had a mandate to encourage conversion to electricity, and its safe installation. Since that time, activities of the league varied in their content and frequency. In the early 1980's, the ESL promoted electric home heating and installed the ESL 'Gold Seal' and 'Silver Seal' standards. The ESL also organized, promoted and ran a major electrical tradeshow every third year in the lower mainland. About 1985, BC Hydro suggested the ESL should rely on them less for funding. League offices then moved from BC Hydro premises. Additional trade activities were scheduled and held around the province. An educational program was developed for members. In 1990, the Electrical Service League changed its name to the British Columbia Electrical Association, and revised its bylaws. In 2014, the BCEA celebrated it's 90th Anniversary of serving the electrical industry throughout the entire province of BC. The result has been a significant increase in the level of member directed activity. New and innovative events were created, while flagship BCEA foundations continued to grow strongly. Our Scholarship and Bursary Program has awarded over $400,000.00 to deserving students across BC. New committees were created to help support the growing need in our industry- the U40 Group, the Women's Network and the Conference Committee. The LINK Conference grew from an idea to an educational and successful event. These changes and additions continue to attract new members and diversify our base. The BCEA is dedicated to helping our members achieve the highest level of success
